ISPY#2 First sighting of the '08 Subaru Impreza

Somebody have better call the Maury Show because he may want to do a DNA test on the new Impreza for his show, it seems Kia Rio must have had a little tryst with Subie last fall because the new Impreza is the spitting image of Rio!!! You try and tell then apart? Come on Kia Rio it's time to come clean, the kid looks just like you!

This is my first sighting of the new Subaru Impreza, non WRX version. At first glimpse I must say it raises the old expression in my head, "If it aint broke don't fix it". So many car companies fall into the "follow up blues", trying to out-do a past model that truly raised the bar and really flirted with that particular models perfection. The '02-06 Camry was a hard act to follow, and the following gen Camry really didn't prove to propel the Camry further. It was the subsequent gen after that took the platform that needed extra step. Certainly the past gen Civic spoke to tuner's in a way the current one does not. The first gen Nissan SE-R has proven to be an act that has yet to be duplicated by following SE-R models. The GTI has finally gone on Nutrisystem and has returned to its svelte self. And let's not even get started on the "deviled egg" shaped Taurus of last generation. The laundry list goes on and on, and just like movie sequels; it is often hard to get that perfect recipe again. Like trying to come out with a Titanic 2, Subaru, with the new Impreza, is trying to reinvent a vehicle that seems to have hit the mark just rite, especially in WRX form in the current outgoing model. It blended the correct amount of "street cred", both visually and mechanically, while still fitting in at the country club. Now hopefully the Impreza will only disappoint visually and not on the road. Auto enthusiasts are very forgiving in terms of style if the vehicle can cook, time will tell.
