Monday March 27, 2007. It's Monday so it's time for another entry into the Automotive Declassified Encyclopedia. Today's vehicle is the Acura RDX. The RDX is Acura's newest nameplate an in many ways shows the trends underway in vehicle design as the Toyota Solara reviewed last time will be replaced with an upscale cross-over tourer and here today our feature vehicle the RDX in many ways is the replacement for the RSX two door hatch. As the RSX hatch goes off onto the sunset the RDX comes riding in taking many of the free spirited driving characteristics of the RSX while providing more space. The RDX uses a turbo, the first for Acura, that provides more than ample power with little turbo lag. The conundrum lies in that the RDX utilises a sport to utility ratio that is deciding on the sport side even in it's rather svelte sizing. This formula might pay off as recent grads go forth into life giving up their hot-hatches for family duds. The Acura is a definite winner, but only for those who value road manors over space or off-road treks. The Acura should be thought of in the same breath as an Audi A4 wagon or a BMW 3 series wagon more than a true crossover. As long as you are OK with the utility, provability trade-off the RDX will provide you with exhilarating driving memories. The bottom line is that the RDX is more car than truck, more about driving than comfort. The RDX earns my golden steering wheel award for being true to itself as an Acura carving out a niche for a reliable raised sports-car- wagon, or an RSCW, take that SUV's! ----FYI-$32.995 and up.
